About Gemma

Educator, coach and lifelong advocate for learners who don't fit the standard mould.

Gemma Brown, founder of Coach Gem

Gemma Brown’s work is guided by a clear purpose: to support learners who think differently and help them flourish on their own terms. Her approach is shaped by both professional experience and a lived understanding of neurodiversity.

Diagnosed with dyslexia at seventeen, Gemma left school with reading comprehension skills significantly below her potential. Despite-and perhaps partly because of-these challenges, she developed considerable resilience and determination. This carried her through a BA (Hons) degree, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, a Diploma in Montessori Education, the publication of a children’s book, and even representing Great Britain in the multidisciplinary sport of tetrathlon. Her journey showed her what can become possible when a learner has determination, a growth mindset and, ideally, the right support.

Now based in New Zealand, Gemma is excited to receive her SPELD NZ teacher registration by the end of the year, so she can dedicate her time to supporting neurodivergent learners. She believes effective support should be holistic, structured, creative and compassionate - in order to build confidence, celebrate difference, and equip learners and their whānau with practical skills for life.
